Early video projects (1973)

It was in 1973 while attending The School of Visual Arts that Chris Stein, from the band Blondie, and myself started videotaping on the streets of Manhattan. All of the footage was shot with a Sony Portapack on 1/2inch reel to reel video tape in support of our weekly Public Access cable TV program on Sterling Manhattan Cable. We caused quite a stir with our edgy content and pushed the limits of what was to become mainstream Cable TV.

Time Magazine took note of our more serious work and called it Gorilla Television. Our association with The Mental Patients Liberation Project and the 13 hours of footage we produced was both captivating and gut-wrenching as we formed many friendships and witnessed much sorrow.
